Ask a Gardening Question

Okanagan Master Gardeners are available to answer questions at Community Projects, Advice Clinics in Nurseries, and Garden Club Plant Sales. We are also available to answer your home gardening questions by email. We may not have all the answers, but as Master Gardeners, we are trained on how to research sustainable growing information.

You can send your question to AskOkanaganMG@gmail.com

If you are asking a question regarding a specific problem, please include a photo along with your description of the problem in your email. Two Master Gardeners monitor AskOkanaganMG@gmail.com and will reply with a researched answer.

All gardeners living and/or gardening in the Okanagan Valley are welcome to join our public Facebook Group, where you can chat with other local gardeners.

Become a Master Gardener in the Okanagan Region

Becoming a part of the Okanagan Master Gardeners is as rewarding as it is educational. Our members are passionate about sharing their knowledge with others. If you're eager to dive into the world of gardening or enhance your existing skills, we're here to support you every step of the way.

Joining us is a straightforward process. You'll start by completing our comprehensive Basic Training Program (BTP). The Basic Training Program trains experienced gardeners to become volunteer educators. It covers a wide range of topics from botany to waterwise landscaping. The training includes 12 weeks of sessions taught by field experts, both online and in-person, requiring successful completion of assignments and passing the final BTP exam.

As a Master Gardener-in-Training, you'll have the opportunity to give back to your community through volunteer work, helping to enrich green spaces and educate others about the joys of gardening. After completing volunteer hours over two years and fulfilling classroom and volunteer service components, participants receive a Master Gardener Certificate.

For questions about the Basic Training Program and/or becoming a Master Gardener in the Okanagan region, please contact Melba via email at melbareid@okanaganmg.org

More about Master Gardeners

The Master Gardeners Association of British Columbia (MGABC) is a charitable organization focused on educating the public about environmentally responsible gardening. Master Gardeners belong to a North American network of associations united by a passion for gardening and sharing their knowledge. They volunteer their expertise to benefit various community sectors, from beginners to experienced gardeners.

Our aim is to educate the public on sustainable gardening practices, offering up-to-date scientific information on local pests, diseases, and environmentally friendly solutions. Certified Master Gardeners remain active by completing volunteer service annually, along with ongoing education through meetings, tours, workshops, and courses.
