Kelowna Seedy Sunday 2025 was a vibrant celebration of gardening, community, and sustainability! Hosted by the Okanagan Master Gardeners, this annual event brought together gardeners of all experience levels to exchange seeds, gain knowledge, and connect with local experts.
Event Highlights from the 2025 Kelowna Seedy Sunday
The Kelowna Seedy Sunday 2025 event took place on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Parkinson Recreation Centre from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. This annual gathering brought together gardeners, vendors, exhibitors, and community members for a day of education, networking, and seed sharing.
The event featured 15 vendors and 28 exhibitors, offering a wide range of gardening-related products, plants, and information. In total, there were approximately 44 vendor booths, stations, and workshops. Attendees also enjoyed food from two local food trucks, Dosa and Chick Chick Boom, adding to the lively atmosphere.
A dedicated group of approximately 85 volunteers, including Okanagan Master Gardeners (OMGs), helped run the event. Among them were 19 Master Gardeners. The event saw strong community engagement, with an estimated 720 general public participants in attendance. The Children’s Workshops were particularly well-received, drawing 55 young participants eager to learn about gardening through hands-on activities.
In total, Kelowna Seedy Sunday 2025 welcomed 824 participants, making it a successful and vibrant event that fostered learning, sustainability, and community connections.
Seed Swap Table
The ever-popular Seed Swap Exchange Table allowed attendees to trade seeds and discover new varieties suited to the Okanagan climate. If you’d like to save seeds this autumn, we’d love your donations for next year’s seed swap! Just bring them to the Seed Swap table at Kelowna Seedy Sunday (preferably before noon).
Gardening Advice Table
Our Okanagan Master Gardeners were on hand throughout the event, answering gardening questions and offering science-based solutions to local gardening challenges. Dozens of gardeners stopped by the Master Gardeners’ table for gardening advice. People in and around the Kelowna area had questions about seed starting, irrigation, drought-tolerant plants, fire-smart landscaping, choosing mulch, and dealing with pest insects.
Vendor Market
Local vendors filled the space with high-quality seeds, plants, and gardening supplies, providing a one-stop shop for spring planting.
Gardening Workshops
We had three informative workshops led by local experts:
- Sustainable Gardening with Darlene Romanko – Practical tips for growing an eco-friendly garden.
- Foraging with Mikaela Cannon – How to harvest wild plants responsibly.
- Seed Saving with Michele Wecels – Best practices for preserving seeds for next year’s garden.
Here is the video of Darlene’s presentation on Sustainable Gardening:
Children’s Activities
Young gardeners enjoyed hands-on planting activities, and the UBCO Science students returned with exciting science demonstrations.
Outdoor Fun & Sustainability
- The popular compost/mulch giveaway from Kelowna’s Glenmore Landfill encouraged eco-friendly gardening practices.
- Food trucks provided delicious snacks, making it a great family-friendly event.
