Historical Significance
Guisachan Heritage Park is home to the Guisachan House, built in 1891 by Lord and Lady Aberdeen. The Aberdeens named the property “Guisachan,” Gaelic for “Place of the Fir,” after Lady Aberdeen’s childhood home in Scotland. The site has seen many transformations, from a working ranch to its current role as a public park and heritage site.
The gardens were further developed by Elaine Cameron in the 1920s, featuring Edwardian landscaping that includes roses, perennials, and trees, some of which still thrive today. The property’s history is a testament to Kelowna’s agricultural and cultural roots, making it a living monument to the region’s past.
