The Love Story of Abkhazi Garden
Prince Nicolas Abkhazi was from the country of Georgia that borders Russia. Princess Peggy Abkhazi was born to British parents in Shanghai, China. Nicolas and Peggy met in the city of Paris in their early twenties in the early 1920's. They spoke in the common language of French and became good friends who kept in touch by letter. During the Second World War, Nicolas was fighting for France and was interned by the Germans. Peggy was living in Shanghai, China and was interned by the Japanese. After the war Nicolas sent a letter to Peggy who was living in Victoria suggesting that they meet up. They met in New York city and were engaged on the Empire State Building on September 7, 1946. They came back to Vicjtoria to marry and they created a beautiful garden together known as the 'garden that love built'
