  • Is the Curry plant edible?

The curry plant (Helichrysum italicum) is an evergreen shrub with yellow flowers and aromatic foliage from the Mediterranean region. It has some reported medicinal and culinary uses, and is not reported to be toxic, but is primarily used as an ornamental plant in landscaping. The curry plant is sometimes confused with the unrelated plant species called curry leaf (Murraya koenigii) which is a small tree native to southern India and Sri Lanka and its leaves are widely used for culinary purposes in Asia. While the curry plant (H. italicum) is suited to gardens in southwest BC (hardiness zones 8 or 9) the curry leaf (M. koenigii) would not survive in Canadian gardens as it requires a tropical climate.
