The Armstrong Elementary School Garden is a new initiative in 2025, bringing the joy and education of gardening to students at Armstrong Elementary School. Located at 3010 Pleasant Valley Road in Armstrong, BC, this beloved historic school—fondly known as “The Brick School”—is planting the seeds of environmental stewardship, hands-on learning, and community connection through its first-ever school garden.
About the School Garden Project
This new school garden will feature raised garden beds where students can engage in planting, growing, and learning about plants. The garden will serve as an outdoor classroom, teaching sustainability, environmental science, and the importance of healthy food systems.
The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) has been instrumental in fundraising for this project, ensuring it becomes a well-appointed addition to the school community.
Okanagan Master Gardeners’ Role
The Okanagan Master Gardeners are proud to partner with Armstrong Elementary School to bring this vision to life. Our volunteers are contributing their expertise, time, and effort by:
- Assisting with the installation of the garden beds.
- Guiding students as they plant their first seeds and seedlings.
- Providing ongoing support to maintain the garden.
- Helping with any additional tasks to ensure the success of the garden.
Through this partnership, we aim to inspire the next generation of gardeners and foster a deeper appreciation for nature.
A Rich History
Armstrong Elementary School first opened its doors on September 8, 1921, with 10 classrooms. Over a century later, the school now houses 12 divisions, continuing its legacy of education and community. The addition of a school garden honors this legacy by providing students with another space for hands-on, experiential learning.
