The Okanagan Master Gardeners actively maintain and enhance the gardens and landscaping at Benvoulin Heritage Park, a historically significant site in Kelowna managed by the Central Okanagan Heritage Society. This project involves the care and development of the park’s English cottage-style gardens, surrounding the beautifully restored Benvoulin Church, the McIver House, and Reid Hall.
OMG’s work at Benvoulin Heritage Park
Master Gardeners contribute to preserving the beauty and functionality of the gardens in this private park by:
- Planting, pruning, and maintaining heritage-appropriate vegetation.
- Ensuring the site remains an inviting and picturesque space for events.
History of the Site
Built in 1892, Benvoulin Church is a landmark Gothic Revival-style building, and Reid Hall, added in 2000, provides modern amenities while maintaining the site’s heritage character. The McIver House, an early 1900s farmhouse, adds historical charm as a restored residence for site managers.
Through this project, the Okanagan Master Gardeners support the park’s mission to honor local history while providing an accessible and well-maintained setting for public enjoyment, cultural events, and educational opportunities.
