From hobby gardeners to garden designers and landscape professionals, our Master Gardener Training students receive science-based education with instructors from local universities and colleges, growers, ministry specialists, and experienced professionals.

The Vancouver Master Gardeners welcome enthusiastic gardeners with a willingness to share their interest and experience with the public.
- To become a Vancouver Master Gardener you must successfully complete our Master Gardener Training Program.
- This program runs each January through the end of March
- Following the 12-week classroom (theory and skills) component, volunteer service hours must be completed to become a Qualified Master Gardener
- The course will include live online lectures on Tuesday evenings and lectures or in-person workshops on Saturday mornings (typically located at VanDusen Gardens Floral Hall)
- The Program is for those who already have some basic gardening knowledge and experience.
- In order to secure a placement in the 2027 program you are encouraged to submit an application as early as possible.
- Information Sessions will be held in the fall of 2026 for those who have submitted an application. Attending one of these sessions is a requirement for acceptance into the program.
- The final deadline for applications to the 2027 program is November tba 2026, (requiring attendance at an Information Session in November TBA ).
- Applicants are considered on a first-come, first-served basis so the course may be full prior to this deadline.
- The cost of the 2027 Basic Training Program is $750 (to be paid in November), covering lectures, books, and workshop materials.
